We get this question every day. Unfortunately, this is a lot like asking a mechanic how much it will cost to fix your car before he even knows what’s wrong. While we can predict this with some accuracy, there is always a bit of a variance since every company’s need is different. With that being said, we can give you a general guide to how we price our web design projects.
Most of the time, our website designs will fall into one of three categories:
Template Based Design w/Open Source CMS
(Average Spend: $1,200 - $1,800)Most small business clients wanting a web site (and those that may have budget constraints) generally choose this option. In most cases, we build the site using WordPress and will suggest customization to a pre-made template. If WordPress is not the right fit for you (e.g. if you need an eCommerce or Shopping Cart Site) we will choose another open source platform that has template support. Custom Graphic Design & Coding w/Open Source CMS
(Average Spend: $1,800 - $3,500)This service is similar to the above except that we give one of our talented designers a blank canvas to design a site that fits your company’s culture and personality, then we bring in our coding staff to turn that design into a format that is compatible with WordPress or whichever CMS we are using. Because there are more variables in the design process, this option has a much wider variance in price than the one above.
Custom Design & Functionality with Proprietary Database
(Minimum Spend: $5,000)As the price might indicate, this option isn’t for the faint of heart, nor for the business that doesn’t have a clear, concise business-plan based idea for what they want to do online. Our custom website and database solutions are built in ASP or PHP depending on the business need and are always coded based on best practices. In most cases, these projects are ongoing and work is done at a set hourly rate. If you feel this might be the option for you, please visit our Custom Web Development page.
What if my budget is less than your average spend?
If it’s pretty close, go ahead and get in touch with us – the average is just that. Some projects require more work than others and this page was created just to give a “ballpark.” If we’re more than a few hundred dollars off the mark, it might be best for you to look elsewhere for a company that will work within your budget.
We have found over time that we are the best fit for companies who exhibit one or more of the following:
- They have a specific goal in mind for their site (leads/sales/etc.)
- They know what products (or services) they want to offer online
- They have some sort of unique need that requires a custom solution
- They want to build a subscription list for marketing purposes
- They have a business idea with a solid plan and adequate funding
